+Vivien Feasson a few things:
• it uses d100 skill checks like call of Cthulhu
• you have a career, they are largely random sad sack world jobs like charcoal burner, camp follower, or flaggelent. Being a wizard or someone who traditionally is associated with skilled use of martial weapons is a unlikely outcome.
• you also get a blemish from a table
• you advance your character by purchasing available upgrades to skills/statistics that your career can upgrade
• you don’t level up you just get marginally better at things or spend XP to move to a different career (exits) some of which are hard to get to and have desirable stuff (like the ability to upgrade important skills, Magic, stat gains).
• starting career is randomly assigned and gives you: some sense of who you are, some flavor based gear—starting career is not based on stats but on random outcome.
• combat uses wound tables
• magic is quasi leveless, powerful & highly unstable
• you have Fate (I think is the stat, maybe it is luck) which allows you to reroll and not die and non fantasy races get more points. So an Elvish Outrider is potentially way more likely to die than a rat catcher.
