Session 138 – Organizing Strike Teams

The party filled in the Hangman and the Highlander, who both agreed that the other environmental control stations needed to be secured immediately. The obvious first targets would be the 6 located within Outsider territory. The Highlander gathered up some of his most trustworthy folk, and everyone met at the party’s Anamatronic Restaurant & Brothel. It took about a week to assemble the team (15 people for each of the 6 locations. Enough for three rotating shifts once the places were secured. While they waited, the party and the Hangman organized a plan to get the cult away from the original location they found. They rigged up the teleporter beneath the ancient icon of the cult, and the Hangman rigged up a device to make it look like he was speaking. He told the cult they must leave the dome, and directed them towards the cult of Neve Canri to ’embrace their destiny,’ then “disappeared” on the teleporter. This introduced some division in the cult, but enough of them left that it was trivial to tear down their place and make it uninhabitable if any of them ever made it back.

Once the team was assembled the party laid out a battle plan–teleporting in one scout, then the rest of the team once they signaled the teleport pad was clear of deadly obstruction. One by one the teams went out to the six locations, and secured them all:

1. Completely dead. Nothing is working. These systems are being managed by adjacent stations.

2. Running at 90% efficiency.

3. Running at 45% efficiency

4. Infested with a living plant that had to be destroyed. Root system apparently extends way up towards the surface. Outsiders warned to be on the lookout for signs of it on the surface. Despite infestation, this station was operating at 50% efficiency.

5. Teleporter was down. Hangman led the team to the location more directly, managed to get in. It’s operating at 70% efficiency, but the teleporter is completely destroyed by what appears to be bullet holes.

6. The party secured this one personally, due to the odd tech signatures. Operating at 100% efficiency because a primitive AI awakened within its systems in the days after the apocalypse, and has been managing resources with skill and creativity

Much of the session involved talking to the AI, and the party made a reasonably good impression on it. It was able to provide them with a full map of the sewers, and suggested it might be copied to other stations to improve their operating.

Examining its readouts suggested a significant amount of power is being directed towards the local Pillar (which is not within this station’s purview), and towards underground chambers which the party speculate might be hydroponic farms.
